Increasing dexterity of prosthetic robot hands through an affordable and unconventional design, for users with a lost limb

BRIEF

Current prostheses often use multiple fingers to achieve a single degree of freedom (DoF) motion, which limits the functionality that can be restored to those with functional loss from limb difference.

SOLUTION

The SPOC grasper redistributes the available degrees of freedom of an existing prosthetic hand to add adduction/abduction to two pairs of conjoined fingers, instead of using four available degrees of freedom for one motion (flexion/extension).
